Bishop's Bowling Bible - the BBB |
Daniel Russell Bishop (pictured above) is Oakwood Hills leading strike bowler. Over the coming months Daniel will be sharing his and some of his friends cricketing hints and tips.
As I myself am a talented wicket keeper batsmen I can fully appreciate Daniel sharing with us his tips on keeping wicket.
WICKET-KEEPING TIPS
1. Assume that every ball bowled will reach you.
2. Do not move into the stance position too early - it might cause too much
stress for too long.
3. Move only after the ball has been sighted and come up as the ball
bounces.
4. As you catch the ball let your arms become "long" to allow for bending of
your elbows and let your hands "give".
5. Try to keep your weight on the foot nearest to the stumps when taking the
ball.
6. When taking returns from the fielders, try to be in striking distance of
the stumps for attempted run outs; clap your hands, or raise a hand above
your head to let the fielder know where his target is; try to make poor
returns look better by always catching the ball.
STUMPING ON THE OFF-SIDE
1. Move your right foot to the line of the ball.
2. To help in breaking the wicket speedily, keep your weight on the inside
foot.
3. Be prepared to move off the line if the ball lifts suddenly.
STUMPING ON THE LEG-SIDE
1. Move your left foot once the line is judged. If the ball is quite wide,
extra foot movements will be required.
2. Keep your weight on the inside foot.
3. Keep level as you move.
4. A fast hand action is an essential tool for successful taking on the
leg-side.
