Bishop's Bowling Bible - the BBB |
Daniel Russell Bishop (pictured above) is Oakwood Hills leading strike bowler. Over the coming months Daniel will be sharing his and some of his friends cricketing hints and tips.
Back to some cricket basics this week as Daniel shares with us some tips on catching.
Catching:-
* Concentration is a MUST
* Keep your head still
* Do not rise too early
Catching Close To The Wicket:-
* Your feet should be comfortably apart with the knees bent
* Your palms should be facing the ball with your fingers pointing downwards
* Concentration is a must as is hand position
* Your hands should "give" as the ball is taken
High Catch
* Sight the ball and then move into the line of the ball quickly
* Establish a good base and try to catch the ball in front of your eyes
* Keep your fingers wide and again let the palm of your hand and the front
of your
fingers face the ball. This applies even if the ball is caught "baseball
style"
Flat Catching
Fielders at mid-on, mid-off, cover and mid-wicket often have the ball driven
to them at head height
* Keep the palms of your hands cupped in an inverted position (with fingers
pointing upwards)
* If the ball is coming directly at the face, move your face to one side as
you take the ball into your hands.
